  • ABC of the RAF edited by Sir John Hammerton.

  • Britain's Wonderful Air Force by Air Commodore PSM Felowes (Ed).

  • A.P. 1081 R.A.F. Pocket Book - An issue handbook detailing a wealth of knowledge for service in the R.A.F.. From defence preparation to liasing with other forces, very useful for background knowledge of the Air Force's organisation.

  • Experiences of War - The British Airman by Roger A. Freeman - Veterans tell their experiences of service in the wartime R.A.F. Coverage includes aircrew and ground trades, a great insight into the daily life of the Airman or woman.

  • Luftwaffe vs. R.A.F. Flying Clothing of the Air War 1939-45 volume 1 - Mick Prodger - Details clothing worn by R.A.F. aircrew. Includes uniform items, headwear, footwear etc. Offers useful comparison to Luftwaffe clothing. Essential for those interested in aircrew.

  • Luftwaffe vs. R.A.F. Flying Equipment of the Air War 1939-45 volume 2 - Mick Prodger - From parachute harnesses to life preservers, sidearms to navigation equipment, this volume details equipment used by R.A.F. aircrew, alongside that in Luftwaffe use. Again, another essential book for those interested in aircrew.

  • Osprey Men at Arms series: The Royal Air Force 1939-45 - Andrew Cormack - A useful book concerning many aspects of the uniforms and equipment of the wartime R.A.F. Ideally this book should be used alongside other reference materials as it offers quick surface reference across a range of information.

  • World War Two British Women's Uniforms - Martin Brayley and Richard Ingram - Excellent colour reference for those interested in the women's services in WW2. It has a very good WAAF section showing the different uniforms worn.
