![]() 1) Take control of the rifle. Left hand on forestock, right hand grasping pistol grip, fingers clear of trigger.
2) Open bolt. If the safety catch is on, take off by pushing forward with right thumb. If round is present in the chamber, it will be ejected by the action of opening the bolt. 3) If there are rounds in the magazine, point the rifle in a safe direction, and continue to cycle the bolt until all rounds are ejected.
4) Keep the fingers clear of the trigger by grasping the bolt head with finger and thumb as shown.
5) When the last round has been ejected, leave the bolt in the open position.
6) Physically check inside the magazine with a finger to ensure no rounds remain. This is particularly important at night or in reduced visibility
7) Make sure that the magazine follower is depressed to confirm no rounds are present.
8) Check inside the breach of the rifle with the little finger to ensure no round is in the chamber.
9) This is also important at night, as torches would not have been able to be used.
10) When the chamber and magazine are clear of rounds, take an aimed shot in a safe direction.
11) The rifle is now unloaded.
